Hesai to provide sensors for BYD’s next-gen driver-assistance system
China technology company’s light detection and ranging sensors will be present in more than 10 BYD models entering mass production in 2025
NASDAQ-LISTED Hesai Technology will supply electric vehicle (EV) giant BYD with sensors for its next-generation advanced driver-assistance system (Adas).
Hesai, a China manufacturer of light detection and ranging (lidar) sensors and products, will provide automotive lidar for two versions of BYD’s recently announced, next-generation “God’s Eye” Adas.
The technology will be present in more than 10 models that are expected to enter mass production in 2025, Hesai said on Tuesday (Feb 11).
BYD’s Hong Kong-listed stock leapt to an all-time high earlier on Tuesday, after the EV maker said that it would include its new Adas in almost all of its future models without bumping up costs, as well as integrate DeepSeek artificial intelligence into its cars.
Hesai, started in 2015, has numerous partnerships with Chinese automotive groups, including SAIC Motor and Changan, and occupies a dominant position in the lidar market with 37 per cent market share by revenue in 2024.
Lidar is a key technology for autonomous vehicles and self-driving cars and works on a similar principle as radar, except that it uses lasers instead of radio waves.
