THE International Air Transport Association (Iata) has urged governments to swiftly find alternatives to measures by the United States and the UK banning the carry-on of large electronic items on certain flights.
"The current measures are not an acceptable long-term solution to whatever threat they are trying to mitigate," said Alexandre de Juniac, Iata's director-general, in a speech to the Monteral Council on Foreign Relations. "Even in the short term, it is difficult to understand their effectiveness. And the commercial distortions they create are severe."
