IBIA finalises bunker surveyor SOP (Amended)

THE International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) has finalised a standard operating procedure (SOP) spelling out the role of bunker surveyors in overseeing bunker deliveries involving mass flow meters (MFMs) in Singapore.

Singapore is on track to impose the mandatory use of MFMs for marine fuel oil from January 2017, but the use of MFMs prompted some industry players to question the relevance of bunker surveyors in future. The IBIA SOP sought to assuage the concerns by defining the responsibilities of a surveyor in an MFM bunkering operation.
