[SINGAPORE] While India's aviation industry offers opportunities for growth, airlines still struggle with high costs, ranging from fuel to distribution.
Speaking at the Aviation Outlook Asia conference yesterday, Aloke Singh, general manager (revenue management and pricing) for Air India, said that India's travel market totals 100 million passengers, of which 60 per cent relates to domestic travel.
"It's the seventh largest market in terms of passenger numbers," he said, adding that it is projected to become the third largest market by the end of the decade. This is driven by factors such as economic growth, population growth and the liberalisation of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the industry.
