Korean firms bag contracts to design and build Pasir Ris interchange station and Cross Island Line tunnels
THE Land Transport Authority (LTA) on Monday announced that it has awarded the civil contract for the design and construction of the Pasir Ris interchange station and tunnels for Phase 1 of the Cross Island Line (CRL) to a joint venture between Daewoo Engineering & Construction and the Singapore branch of Dongah Geological Engineering.
The total contract value stands at S$980 million. It covers the design and construction of the interchange station and tunnels, as well as addition and alteration works to the existing Pasir Ris station along the East-West Line.
In a statement on Monday, the LTA said that the two Korean firms have "established track records in providing design-and-build construction services for infrastructure such as rail stations and tunnels locally and abroad".
Daewoo is now building the j Stevens station and tunnels for the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL); Dongah's Singapore branch is now working on the construction of Great World station and tunnels for the TEL.
Construction works for the CRL Pasir Ris station are expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2021. Passenger service is slated to start in 2030.
The CRL, Singapore's eighth MRT line, will serve existing and future developments in the eastern, north-eastern and western corridors, linking major hubs such as the Jurong Lake District, Punggol Digital District and Changi. Phase 1 of the CRL will be 29 km long and have a dozen stations from Aviation Park to Bright Hill.
