THE Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded 2 contracts for the Jurong Region Line (JRL) for a total of S$386 million.

A S$148 million civil contract for the construction of JRL JW5 station and its associated viaducts has been awarded to construction firm Hwa Seng Builder. Hwa Seng had been appointed previously to construct 2 other stations, JW3 and JW4.

This latest contract - the last civil works contract for JRL - covers the design and construction of JW5 station, and about 0.7 km of elevated viaducts along Nanyang Drive. JW5 station is located within Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and will improve connectivity for existing developments on the campus, such as the NTU South Spine, the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication & Information, and the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine.

Construction works for JW5 are poised to start in the third quarter of this year, and slated for completion in 2029.

Meanwhile, a second contract, valued at about S$238 million, has been awarded to a consortium consisting of Siemens Mobility and Concord Corporation for the provision of the power supply system for JRL. This contract includes the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning for the entire JRL power supply system.

Siemens Mobility completed the power supply system for the Downtown Line and is currently involved in the Circle Line Stage 6, North East Line Extension, and Downtown Line Extension. Concord Corporation was involved in the installation of the power supply system for the Circle Line and is presently supporting the power supply system replacement and upgrading works on the North-South and East-West Lines.

The JRL is Singapore’s seventh MRT line and will open from 2027 in 3 stages, enhancing connectivity in western Singapore by establishing direct links to NTU, Jurong Industrial Estate, Jurong Innovation District, Pandan Reservoir and the future Tengah area.
