LTA to call tenders for North-South Corridor, targets 2026 completion

THE Land Transport Authority (LTA) will be calling tenders in the coming months for the construction of the 21.5-kilometre (km) North-South Corridor (NSC), which is expected to be completed around 2026.

Major construction works on the NSC - which will connect towns in the northern region to the city centre - will start in 2017 after the civil contracts are awarded.

The NSC will be Singapore's first integrated transport corridor featuring cycling trunk routes and continuous bus lanes, which could potentially cut travel time from Woodlands, Sembawang, Yishun and Ang Mo Kio to the city by up to 30 minutes.

LTA said preparatory works for the construction have already been carried out. Advance engineering studies have also been completed.

Findings showed that there are potential construction and engineering challenges that would require more sophisticated construction methods to ensure that existing adjacent infrastructure is not affected by the construction of the NSC.
