[PORT LOUIS] The Mauritius port is undergoing expansion so that it can start receiving ships with a capacity of 11,000 containers, a source from the Mauritius Ports Authority (MPA) disclosed yesterday.

The development is part of plans to position Port Louis as the maritime hub in the south-western part of the Indian Ocean.

The dredging work is being carried out by the Mauritius Container Terminal company (MCT). The work is expected to end in December 2016.
