US justice authorities have issued a new subpoena to Volkswagen (VW) over its emissions cheating under laws governing bank fraud, a source close to the matter said on Tuesday. The subpoena, based on the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery and Enforcement Act, gives investigators broad scope to probe the company.
The source, who asked to remain anonymous, said that the government is seeking information regarding "clean car" tax breaks and rebates granted to customers who bought diesel cars made by the huge German company.
