No simple solution to cap emissions
Caps and levies all sound well and good, but would be very difficult to implement
TWO weeks ago this column mentioned the intensifying campaign by environmental lobbyists in advance of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris (COP21) to rubbish the shipping industry's green credentials.
Well it turned out that the ink was barely dry when Clean Shipping Coalition (CSC) president John Maggs launched an unusually personal attack on International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretary General Koji Sekimizu.
In a strongly worded statement, Mr Maggs criticised the soon-to-retire IMO head for allegedly "dismissing any measures that might have an impact on the volume of shipping" in a recent speech.
