As one IMO icon passes, which way will the organisation sail?

IF YOU walk along London's Albert Embankment, following the River Thames downstream, you go past the headquarters of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

Compared to other buildings, it is not overly impressive but its one really striking feature is a 10-tonne bronze sculpture of a seafarer standing on the bow of a ship which protrudes out slightly from the building.

This memorial to seafarers is closely associated with IMO's former secretary-general William O'Neil whose death at the age of 93 was announced last week.
