SINGAPORE and its littoral neighbours, Indonesia and Malaysia, yesterday jointly launched a pamphlet to promote navigational safety and marine environment protection in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore (SOMS).

The Safe Passage: The Straits of Singapore and Malacca (Safe Passage) pamphlet was launched at the 93rd session of the International Maritime Organization Maritime Safety Committee in London yesterday.

It is the result of an initiative pursued within the Co-operative Mechanism, a framework established in 2007 in which the littoral states of Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore and users of SOMS, pool their respective resources and expertise in an effort to enhance navigational safety and protection of the marine environment in these waters.
