JURONG Port launched a S$2.8 million academy on Friday to train about 1,900 port and stevedoring workers for Singapore's transforming multi-purpose port industry.
Located at the Devan Nair Institute for Employment and Employability in Jurong Gateway, the academy was officially launched by Josephine Teo, Senior Minister of State (Transport). "The key to Jurong Port's success lies in its ability to adapt to evolving needs," said Mrs Teo. "Like Singapore, many ports worldwide are striving to do more through technology and innovation. We must expect that along with the use of more sophisticated equipment, jobs in the port sector will transform."
