Shipping industry leaders focus on value creation
But at the annual meeting in Seoul, they also homed in on regulations binding the industry - their complexity, cost and the safety issues that arise with compliance
ONCE a year, top managers in the broad shipping industry get together to discuss issues of concern. It is easy to dismiss these meetings as "talking shops", but they do give an indication of what matters to the industry.
The annual tripartite meeting among shipowners, shipbuilders and classification societies took place in Seoul, South Korea, in the middle of last month, attended by 100 high-level representatives of the industry.
This year's meeting was organised by Intertanko, with support from Korean Register, Korea Offshore and Shipbuilders Association (KOSHIPA) and Korean Shipowners Association.
