SINGAPORE Airlines (SIA) is pulling the plug on its Canberra-Wellington route, replacing it instead with a new service that connects Singapore and Melbourne to Wellington.
In addition, the carrier will introduce a daily service to Canberra from May 1, which will include a stopover in Sydney. The airline will use a 264-seater Boeing 777-300ER aircraft in a four-class configuration - four First-Class seats, 48 in Business Class, 28 in Premium Economy and 184 in Economy.
SIA's four-times-weekly Singapore-Canberra-Wellington route, or the Capital Express as it is known, was introduced in September 2016, using Boeing 777-200 aircraft. When it was launched in the wake of lobbying from a revamped Canberra airport, it made SIA the first airline to operate regularly scheduled international services to and from Australia's capital city.
