[SINGAPORE] Singapore Airlines (SIA) on Tuesday (Mar 31) extended the cancellation of its flights between the city-state and Dubai to end May, citing geopolitical uncertainty in the Middle East.
The cancellations of both SQ494 and SQ495 flights between Singapore and Dubai had previously been extended to end-April. This is after two extensions from Mar 28 and Mar 15 previously.
“As the situation remains fluid, other SIA flights may be affected,” said the airline on social media.
Dubai was initially a beneficiary of SIA’s Airbus A380 in February for the entire flying year, with the 471-seat superjumbo replacing a 264-seat Boeing 777.
This came after the airline was unable to obtain additional slots to add a second daily flight to Dubai.
However, war broke out in Iran and the Gulf region. Airports were hit and airspaces were closed, which prompted Singapore Airlines to instead upgauge one of its Melbourne flights to the A380 and add a new Airbus A350 flight to London-Gatwick.
