THE Singapore Airshow has clinched commitments from the majority of its key exhibitors who took part in this year's edition to participate in the next edition in 2024, said the organiser Experia.

The organiser, in a statement issued after the 4-day event concluded on Friday (Feb 18), announced that almost 80 per cent of the key exhibitors have committed to the next edition of the biennial event on Feb 20-25, 2024, at the Changi Exhibition Centre.

Experia noted that participating companies have shown confidence in the recovery of the aviation sector, which has been pummelled by the pandemic.

Singapore Airlines, for instance, confirmed its order for 7 Airbus A350F freighter aircraft with options for 5 more, and also contracted with Collins Aerospace for maintenance, repair and overhaul services for its fleet of 55 Boeing 787 aircraft.

Other aircraft orders noted by Experia include Etihad's 7 Airbus A350F freighters, JetBlue's 30 additional Airbus A220-300, Australia's Microflite and HeliSpirit's 90 low-noise zero-emission electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft from Eve UAM (an Embraer company), Western Global Airlines' 2 Boeing 777 freighters, and AirAsia's lease for a minimum of 100 VX3 eVTOL aircraft from Avolon under a non-binding agreement.

Electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft take off and land vertically without the need for a runway.

Meanwhile, strategic partnerships by companies include ST Engineering's consortium with Skyports and Sumitomo Corporation in a trial to provide unmanned aircraft for shore-to-ship parcel delivery; Singapore's airport to collaborate with European chemical firm Linde and French plane maker Airbus to study the development of hydrogen supply and infrastructure for aviation.

The Economic Development Board, JTC Corporation, Skyports and Volocopter will also join hands to explore ways to transform the Seletar Aerospace Park into a future Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) hub to support the emerging AAM sector in Singapore.

Singapore Airlines, alongside Airbus, Rolls-Royce and Safran, also signed a global sustainable aviation fuel declaration to promote the acceleration of the development, production, and consumption of the green fuel, noted Experia.

Nearly 13,000 attendees from over 39 nations or regions - representing more than 70 per cent of the top 20 global aerospace companies - took part in the Singapore Airshow 2022, said Experia.
