SINGAPORE is set to solidify its position as the top bunkering port with the mandatory use of mass flow meters for marine fuel oil on track to kick in from January 2017, following yesterday's launch of the world's first National Technical Reference (TR) for Bunker Mass Flow Metering (MFM).
MFM bunkering has already been undertaken in certain ports but Singapore is the first country to mandate the use of the system in measuring the transfer of bunker between the supplier and buyer over the traditional tank gauging method.
