SINGAPORE can now lay claim to be the first port nation in the world to have licensed bunker survey companies, a move welcomed by leading industry bodies as raising the bar here.

Bunker surveyors play a critical role in providing an independent assessment of the quality and quantity of bunker, or ship fuel, being transferred and transacted between the sellers or the bunker suppliers and the buyers, typically the shipowners or operators.
