Singapore Transport Minister 'extremely concerned' about LRT disruption
TRANSPORT Minister Lui Tuck Yew said he is "extremely concerned" about the ongoing disruption to the Bukit Panjang Light Rail Transit (BPLRT) services.
"I am extremely concerned about the disruption of BPLRT services, which has resulted in significant inconvenience to residents," Mr Lui wrote in a Facebook post.
He added that engineers from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and train operator SMRT have been working since Monday evening to try to restore service.
"Unfortunately, it will take more time before service can resume," Mr Lui wrote.
The Minister said he has instructed LTA and SMRT to deploy as many buses as required at affected stations, as well as additional officers on the ground.
A power trip between Pending and Jelapang at about 5:30pm on Monday caused train services to be disrupted on the entire line. A fire at Senja station at about 5:45pm on Monday led services along the entire line to be suspended.
