Small car COE premium softens

CERTIFICATE of entitlement (COE) premiums were mixed after the first bidding exercise in September, with the commercial vehicle category's relatively sharp rise standing out.
The change in Category A - for cars below 1,600 cc or 130 hp - was also significant; it fell S$1,828 to S$51,506.
On the other hand, Cat B - for cars above 1,600 cc and 130 hp - was slightly higher, rising S$502 to S$57,002.
Cat E - the open category which currently tracks Cat B - was almost unchanged, slipping just S$67 to S$56,889.
Elsewhere, Cat D - for motorcycles - inched up S$100 to S$6,452 but Cat C - for goods vehicles - spiked up S$1,800 to S$49,801.
One goods vehicle dealer said that the smaller Cat C quota was behind the jump.

While all five COE categories experience a contraction in numbers during the current August-to-October quota, Cat C's reduction is the biggest in percentage terms. It drops 23.2 per cent or nearly a quarter to 350 COEs per month.
