SMRT beefs up rail engineering capability
Structured career tracks for rail engineers, job rotation, management training and new accreditation

TO IMPROVE the reliability of its train services and increase the attractiveness of its engineering jobs, public transport operator SMRT Corporation introduced on Friday a comprehensive structured career development roadmap for its rail engineers.
Under the career roadmap is the SMRT Train Engineer Professionalisation (STEP), a competency-based scheme for the professional development of all executive engineering staff in SMRT. Previously, career progression was not as clearly defined and tended to be based on seniority instead of competency.
