Toyota issues second Prius recall in a month on crash risk
[TOKYO] Toyota Motor Corp is recalling more than 2 million hybrid cars globally, including its iconic Prius, on the risk that a software malfunction could end in a crash.
Of the approximately 2.43 million vehicles affected, about 1.25 million are in Japan and 830,000 in North America, Jean-Yves Jault, a company spokesman, said by email on Friday.
It is the second recall for Priuses in the space of a month, with the previous involving more than 1 million hybrid cars globally due to the risk of a fire. The vehicles in the current recall had been recalled before, in 2014 and 2015, for a related issue, Jault said.
