[DENPASAR] Virgin Australia Holdings Ltd and Jetstar Airways Pty canceled flights to and from Bali scheduled for Saturday, citing unsafe conditions around Denpasar Airport because of volcanic eruptions.
"Mount Rinjani continues to erupt and wind conditions are forecast to remain unfavorable today," Brisbane-based Virgin said Saturday in a statement. It plans to decide later whether its flights between Bali and Australia will resume Sunday.
Winds have pushed volcanic ash toward Denpasar Airport and are forecast to worsen, Jetstar said in a statement posted to its website.
Disruption to flights is due to ash from Lombok's Mount Rinjani and follows flight cancellations to Bali in July and August during an eruption by Mount Raung on Java.
