A MALFUNCTION in the water pumping system caused water to collect in the MRT tunnels, which contributed to a disruption of more than 20 hours on the North-South Line (NSL) last Saturday, preliminary investigations have shown.
In a statement to the media on Sunday, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said that preliminary investigations showed that water entered the tunnels through the portal opening near Bishan MRT station after a torrential downpour on Saturday evening, where above ground rail tracks transit underground.
