UOB marks groundbreaking of new Thailand HQ

UNITED Overseas Bank (UOB) held a groundbreaking ceremony last Thursday for its new Thailand headquarters in Bangkok.
The bank's deputy chairman and CEO Wee Ee Cheong, and UOB (Thai) president and CEO Tan Choon Hin, both symbolically laid the foundation stone for the 30-storey building.
It will be the main office and centre for the operations in Thailand and will house more than 3,000 employees.
Built at a cost of 4 billion baht (S$165.4 million), the new headquarters is located in the heart of the Thai capital's commercial district on Sukhumvit Road. It is scheduled for completion by the third quarter of 2021.
"With more than 80 years of experience operating in the region, UOB has a strong appreciation of what is unique to Asean and what matters to our customers," Mr Wee said in a statement.
"In Thailand, one of the region's fastest-growing economies, we have been helping our customers manage and grow their wealth and businesses for more than two decades.
"Our new building reiterates UOB's unwavering commitment to the country as we continue to support its industry, enterprise, consumers and community."
