US: Wall St opens higher as CPI report cements rate-cut bets
WALL Street’s main indexes opened slightly higher on Wednesday (Aug 14) after data showed inflation was moderating as expected, cementing bets that the Federal Reserve will begin its policy-easing cycle next month.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 34.9 points, or 0.09 per cent, at the open to 39800.59.
The S&P 500 rose 7.9 points, or 0.15 per cent, at the open to 5442.36, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 40.0 points, or 0.23 per cent, to 17227.64 at the opening bell. REUTERS
