US: Wall Street opens flat, focus on retail earnings and Fed summit

WALL Street’s main indices were subdued at the open on Monday (Aug 18), in a quiet start to a week packed with corporate earnings reports from major retailers and the Federal Reserve’s annual symposium in Jackson Hole.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 17 points, or 0.04 per cent, at the open to 44,963.17. The S&P 500 fell 4.8 points, or 0.07 per cent, at the open to 6,445.02, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 6.2 points, or 0.03 per cent, to 21,616.82 at the opening bell.
