The value of mergers and acquisition (M&A) deals around the world has grown in the first half of the year, compared to the same period last year, said Mergermarket, as companies "future-proof" themselves in the wake of rapid changes to technology and politics to keep ahead of rivals.

Mergermarket, which provides proprietary M&A intelligence and analysis, said in its latest global and regional M&A report that global deals grew 8.4 per cent in value from the first six months of 2016, despite there being 1,117 fewer deals in the first half of this year than last year.
