Vard to build krill fishing ship bound for Antarctica

SHIPBUILDER Vard Holdings has won a contract to design and build a vessel that will be used to fish for krill in Antarctica, it said in a Singapore Exchange filing Tuesday. It did not disclose the sum and said the contract was subject to conditions.
It will build the ship for Aker BioMarine, a company that develops "krill-based" ingredients for use in "nutraceuticals", aquaculture and animal feed, it said.
Vard said the vessel was 130 metres long and would have technology for "environmentally friendly operations". It said delivery was scheduled from Vard in Norway in the fourth quarter 2018 and the hull of the vessel would be built by Vard Tulcea in Romania.
