    AFTER a tumultuous year of battling new waves and variants of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Singapore market actually fared better than several of its regional counterparts as the city-state continued to shore up investor interest.

    In 2021, the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) rose 9.8 per cent - making it the third-highest advancer in South-east Asia after the Stock Exchange of Thailand, which gained 14.4 per cent, and the Jakarta Composite Index, which advanced 10.1 per cent. Meanwhile, the Philippines ended the year 0.2 per cent lower, and Malaysia's KLCI fell 3.7 per cent.
