Al-Futtaim plans bold changes for Robinsons, Marks & Spencer stores

Group's Asia head talks about biting the bullet through some of the toughest times for retail here, and fresh plans to embrace e-commerce

NOT since the 1997 Asian financial crisis has Kesri Kapur seen such dismal times across Singapore's retail landscape - but the industry veteran believes there's still plenty of silver lining.

The Al-Futtaim group - which owns the Robinsons Group of stores and distribution and retail arm RSH - sent industry watchers into a dither last week with its announcement of several high-profile store closures, including the Marks & Spencer outlet at Centrepoint and the John Little stores at Marina Square and Tiong Bahru Plaza, along with several other Royal Sporting House outlets.
