WITH tweaks to their existing business mix, Big Oil can stay relevant, even as the world moves on to embrace the low-carbon future envisaged in the 2015 Paris climate agreement, BP's chief economist has said.
In an exclusive interview with The Business Times, Spencer Dale made a case for the oil majors to step up to play "a role in helping provide energy solutions" that tap the potential of renewables in electrifying economies.
He said that, with pledges by nations to cut emissions so as to cap global warming to well below 2 deg C above pre-industrial levels being voluntary, it is a challenge for economists to forecast the energy mix of tomorrow.
