THE Energy Market Authority (EMA) is looking to appoint up to 2 additional liquefied natural gas (LNG) term importers for Singapore.

This will complement the current 4 term LNG importers to enhance competition and provide more options for gas buyers.

In a press statement on Thursday (May 19), EMA said it issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) and invited interested parties to submit proposals, which will be evaluated based on their ability to provide reliable, secure and competitive supply of LNG to Singapore.

Proposals must be submitted by 3 pm on Jul 8. Interested parties should visit EMA’s website and refer to the RFP document for more details.

EMA said that natural gas will continue to be the dominant fuel for Singapore in the near future as the other 3 Switches scale up to solar, regional power grids and low-carbon alternatives.

The current LNG term importers are ExxonMobil LNG Asia-Pacific, Pavilion Energy Singapore, Sembcorp Fuels and Shell Eastern Trading.
