Senoko Energy launches retail services for consumers ahead of market liberalisation

SENOKO Energy has launched its retail brand for households and small and medium enterprises (SMEs), ahead of the full liberalisation of Singapore's power market in the second half of this year.

This will give consumers access to energy packages that may be tailored to their needs, the local utility company said in a statement on Wednesday.

The company added that its retail offerings for households and SMEs will also aim to help customers reduce energy consumption via the use of smart technology.

This includes providing energy consumption data and analytics via an online customer portal, and allowing users to track their energy usage.

Said Senoko Energy's president and CEO Bernard Esselinckx: "As the market heads into full liberalisation, we are committed to helping consumers make the best choices and getting the most out of their energy packages. This means that we will continue to deliver efficient energy solutions and leverage technology and data insights to help them better manage their energy usage."

In October last year, the Energy Market Authority (EMA) announced that it will be rolling out the Open Electricity Market to promote greater competition and enhance service standards in Singapore's electricity market.

The soft launch is slated to start in Jurong next month, and consumers will have the option to buy electricity from a retailer of their choice. This will then be extended to the rest of Singapore in the second half of 2018.
