This Sunday (May 1), Tottenham Hotspur will not just be playing to win their match against Leicester City, they will also be doing their part to raise funds to help disadvantaged children, youth and their families.

During the English Premier League (EPL) match in London, Tottenham’s players will wear jerseys with ‘AIA Better Lives Fund’ emblazoned on the front, along with the words “In support of Community Chest Singapore”. These match-worn jerseys will be signed and auctioned off after the game.

In a press release on Monday (April 25), AIA Singapore said this comes as part of the new “Grant a Wish with AIA Better Lives Fund”, a fundraising initiative by the insurance group and Tottenham.

There are plans to also organise a livestream auction on Facebook on May 12, with the items up for sale including signed jerseys and caps, as well as paintings from Singapore charity Children’s Wishing Well.

Proceeds from both auctions will go towards providing meals for children from Children’s Wishing Well. The funds raised will also go to Singapore-based charity VIVA Foundation for Children with Cancer to fund cancer research projects, curate programmes for cancer survivors and enable better medical facilities. Both charities are partners of AIA Singapore.

Beneficiaries of the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation will receive support from the auctions as well.

Donna-Maria Cullen, Tottenham’s executive director and trustee of the club’s foundation, said this is the fourth time in the past 7 years that Tottenham has partnered on a charity shirt initiative.

Wong Sze Keed, chief executive of AIA Singapore, said that the company remains steadfast in its commitment to “build an inclusive Singapore” for future generations.

“The launch of the ‘Grant a Wish with AIA Better Lives Fund’ initiative underpins our mission in supporting children and families in need, and enabling the greater community to live healthier, longer, better lives,” she said.

The AIA Better Lives Fund, which was established last year, is administered by Community Chest, which is the fundraising and engagement arm of the National Council of Social Service.
