SOOTHING images of butterflies in flight and cherry blossoms in bloom set to a mellow musical background adorn Sheraton Towers Singapore’s mooncake boxes this year.

The augmented reality (AR) effects were designed by the young artist beneficiaries of The Business Times Budding Artists Fund (BT BAF) to complement the boxes that contain handcrafted mooncakes from the hotel’s Li Bai Cantonese Restaurant.

The AR effects, which can be viewed through the Artivive app, can be seen both inside and outside the red tower box as well as the tin box.

The project was a collaboration between Sheraton Towers and BT BAF. The latter is managed by TRCL, a not-for-profit arts organisation.

Among the mooncakes nestled in the boxes are Li Bai’s new offerings – the baked oats and dried fruits mooncake, and the mini pomegranate snowskin.

Marcus Kirubakaran, 13, is one of 3 beneficiaries who worked on the collaboration. The teenager, who is enrolled in the tech track programme at the Little Arts Academy and took part in the project for the second time, said: “I’ve learned many new ways to use digital technology to make art. I was able to create a unique AR filter for the mooncake box with music that gives the feel of Mid-Autumn Festival vibes.”
