C&C Singapore adds Foodpanda to electric two-wheel vehicle battery swapping pilot

TAIWANESE electric vehicle company Gogoro and Cycle & Carriage (C&C) Singapore have partnered Foodpanda in a battery swapping pilot. This will support smart electric two-wheel vehicles for last mile deliveries in Singapore.
Having Foodpanda onboard would allow the companies to trial Gogoro’s Smartscooters and battery swapping platform for the purpose of conducting last-mile deliveries, they said on Thursday (Mar 23).
“Insights from the trial will be used to guide next steps to accelerate the adoption of sustainable mobility as Singapore moves towards a transportation system using cleaner and more sustainable energy,” the companies added.
This comes after the Land Transport Authority awarded Gogoro and C&C with a battery swapping sandbox pilot for electric two-wheel vehicles last year.
Under the new collaboration, C&C would lease Gogoro 2 Series Smartscooters to Foodpanda riders, who can swap out depleted batteries for new ones in seconds at battery swapping stations.
There are currently two battery swapping stations located at C&C’s service centers located in Alexandra and Ubi.

This eliminates vehicle battery charging downtime and the need for parking, the companies said.
Besides battery swapping services, the C&C leasing package for riders also includes service and maintenance costs.
The operating costs of using the smartscooters would be comparable to that of motorcycles with internal combustion engines, the companies added.
Besides the new partnership, C&C said it was also seeking “like-minded partners to scale up the Gogoro fleet and battery swapping stations in Singapore and beyond”.
“We are in the midst of ascertaining operational viability in Singapore and partnering with Foodpanda to validate this through the trial is our current focus,” said Wilfrid Foo, C&C Singapore’s managing director.
