WONG De Rui, senior vice-president of GIC’s sustainability office, will be joining the board committee of the Asia Investor Group on Climate Change (AIGCC), said the climate-focused investor group in a press release on Thursday (Dec 19).

Wong leads research on sustainability-related themes – such as climate change, nature, supply chains and inequality – that have material impact on the investment portfolio of Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund.

Prior to him joining AIGCC’s board committee, he was chairing a working group within the organisation that advances emerging investor solutions that could support the transition to a net-zero economy.

Rebecca Mikula-Wright, chief executive officer of AIGCC, said that Wong plays a key sustainability leadership role at one of Singapore’s most important financial institutions.

“So AIGCC will benefit greatly as he brings that insight and perspective as we help the region’s investors manage climate risks and opportunities,” she added.

Wong said that having the platform to discuss and collaborate on the best practices to tackle climate change is crucial, given its increasing material impact on investors and the global community.
