IN THE spirit of Christmas, The Alliance of Guest Workers Outreach (AGWO) - a movement of Hope Initiative Alliance - took 120 migrant workers to the Universal Studios Singapore (USS) theme park at Resorts World Sentosa for the first time on Saturday (Dec 25).

The event was part of a wider initiative of AGWO and its partners to spread some festive cheer to these workers.

Hope Initiative Alliance is an inter-racial and inter-religious alliance of social service organisations, civil groups and corporations that seek to provide holistic care for vulnerable and marginalised communities.

"Having built many buildings and places in Singapore, the migrant workers may not have the chance to visit them, including the tourist attractions that they had put extra efforts to build," said an AGWO spokesperson.

"Besides USS, we brought 200 of them to the Singapore Zoo and Jurong Bird Park in the last few weeks, using the SingapoRediscovers vouchers donated by Singaporeans."

Since early December, the non-profit organisation has collaborated with other companies to organise 8 carnivals in Tuas South Recreation Centre, Kranji Recreation Centre and Terusan Recreation Centre for the workers.

The activities will take place till Jan 1 with a total of 12,000 migrant workers attending the celebrations.
