IN a first for Marina Bay Sands (MBS), the integrated resort will power a six-month food programme to improve the nutrition of 1,000 vulnerable families using only fresh produce.

The initiative is part of its community engagement programme, Sands Cares, and MBS is donating S$275,000 to support the various projects under the programme to drive impact and inspire change.

The contribution will benefit initiatives steered by four local organisations - Agape Connecting People, Care Corner Singapore, Image Mission Limited and Art Outreach Singapore - which are in line with Sands Cares' commitment to provide shelter, food and services to vulnerable communities, and support education and employment in the hospitality industry.

Paul Town, chief operating officer of MBS, said: "We encourage our team members to continue giving and create bigger waves of change in the future, regardless of whether it is done in their own capacity or through volunteering opportunities with Sands Cares."

On top of the donation, MBS engaged its 10,000-strong workforce in an Impact Conversation series to celebrate the work of its community partners.

This was done through its inaugural closed-door Sands Cares Community Week, held earlier this month.

Styled as fireside chats, the sessions saw organisations, which included Singapore Red Cross, Care Corner Singapore and Agape Connecting People, sharing on topics such as supporting disaster resiliency, harnessing the potential of adolescents, and human-centred service.

"Sands Cares Community Week is an ode to our community partners, who do much of the heavy lifting to empower their beneficiaries to pursue their dreams," said Mr Town.

Bobby Ow, senior manager, market development, Marina Bay Sands, said: "As a regular volunteer, I found the Impact Conversation series very meaningful and applicable. I learnt how all of us can play a part to create a better society. It can be as simple as offering a listening ear to a troubled youth, or (advocating) for others to donate blood for our national blood bank."
