Mizuho Bank Singapore brings festive cheer to needy students
EMPLOYEES of Mizuho Bank Singapore recently brought some festive cheer to more than 40 students from AWWA’s Special Student Care Centre.
The half-day Christmas event was held at the bank’s office at Asia Square on Dec 23. As part of the “Gift a Smile” initiative under the Mizuho Singapore Foundation, staff adopted over 350 gifts to distribute to these students with additional needs.
The gifts – which the students had earlier requested for as their “wishes” – included toys, calculators, school bags, shopping vouchers and books. Some of the beneficiaries received their gifts through a home distribution by Mizuho staff.
Mizuho Bank Singapore’s chief executive officer Josephine Lok said in a news release: “This event embodies the spirit of the season and reflects our commitment to supporting our community. Seeing our colleagues come together to make a difference is truly inspiring.”
The Mizuho Singapore Foundation was launched in July 2024 as part of Mizuho’s 50th anniversary celebrations in Singapore.
The foundation encompasses a US$1 million donor-advised fund with TT Foundation Advisors, a Temasek Trust initiative, which also serves as the foundation’s philanthropy advisor.
The spirit of giving will carry into January as some Mizuho employees will create handmade lanterns for seniors at Care Corner, a social service agency. These lanterns will be donated to be displayed at Care Corner’s active ageing centres to “spread joy and light” ahead of the upcoming Lunar New Year celebrations, the bank said in its release.
