SPH distributes fortune bags to spread festive cheer to needy elderly
Singapore
THIS Chinese New Year, staff from Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) gathered to spread festive cheer to the needy elderly by distributing fortune bags containing essential items on Tuesday.
Over 20 staff volunteers came together to distribute these bags, and red packets, to the homes of 120 needy elderly living in the Toa Payoh Estate.
Each bag includes items such as vermicelli, rice, instant coffee, toiletries, masks and hand sanitisers, which were donated by sponsors and staff.
Some of the sponsors are 7-Eleven, Paragon Market Place and Benelux Flowers & Food Pte Ltd.
Head of SPH Corporate Communications and CSR, Chin Soo Fang said: "2020 was a challenging year for everyone as the world battles the Covid-19 pandemic.
"As we step into the new year and with Chinese New Year approaching, we want to spread some festive cheer and uplift the spirits of our elderly friends in Toa Payoh."
This is an annual event organised by SPH Staff Volunteers Club, and is the third year SPH is partnering Care Corner Senior Activity in Toa Payoh.
Care Corner Senior Activity Centre at Toa Payoh functions as a community-based drop-in centre and offers holistic eldercare programmes to keep seniors active.
