IF YOU have taste buds to tantalise and altruism on your agenda, consider swinging by Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa this September for a new high-tea experience that lets you partake in drinks, dessert and donations all at once.

The Tropical Afternoon Tea experience will be available at LeBar at Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa from Sep 1 to 30. Besides pleasing the palate, it is a fundraiser – for every person purchasing the Tropical Afternoon Tea, the resort will contribute S$5 to Community Chest to support its goal of raising S$1 million for various social-service agencies.

The resort’s cluster general manager, Cavaliere Giovanni Viterale, said: “The collaboration with Community Chest will allow us to impact as many of its beneficiaries as possible.”

Priced at S$59 per person, the Tropical Afternoon Tea will feature an elegant array of savouries and sweets inspired by traditional Peranakan dishes and flavours, including assam pedas crab with crispy mantou and caramelised pineapple, lobster kueh pie tee and kopi-c panna cotta. It includes a glass of rosé wine, two glasses of themed cocktails, and a free flow of coffee and tea.

The resort has also put together a trio of new Peranakan-inspired cocktails, priced at S$22 each. This includes The Kebaya, which is made with gula-melaka-infused rum, upcycled pandan leaves, and kumquat.

The high-tea experience is part of the Empowering Lives: Food for Good programme, a fundraiser initiative by Community Chest and Peranakan chef and restaurateur Violet Oon. The programme is part of Community Chest’s 40th anniversary.

“The initiative’s focus on culinary efforts allows us to tap into our wellspring of culinary talents, especially junior executive sous chef Boone Low, head mixologist Daniel Anthony and their teams to make a difference to the wider community,” said Viterale.

He added that the resort’s signature hospitality is aimed not only at guests, but at “empowering and respecting the wider community as well”.

In March, the resort marked International Women’s Day with its Purple Afternoon Tea and Violet Icon cocktail, in a nod to purple being a colour of International Women’s Day, symbolising justice, dignity and loyalty to the cause. Ten per cent of the proceeds went to non-profit United Women Singapore’s outreach efforts.

That same month, it set up an ambience-laden observance of Earth Hour 2023 with dimmed lights and candles, an activity sheet for children, and dining centrepieces featuring upcycled wine bottles and fairy lights.
