Philanthropy Asia Alliance tackles the region’s health challenges and just energy transition
It introduces two new platforms for philanthropic collaboration
[SINGAPORE] The Philanthropy Asia Alliance (PAA) on Monday (May 5) announced the launch of two new “communities” – the Just Energy Transition (JET) Community and the Health for Human Potential (HHP) Community.
PAA’s Communities initiative brings together various partners to collaborate on high-impact projects. The new platforms were introduced at the Philanthropy Asia Summit 2025, a conference organised by Temasek Trust – the philanthropic arm of state investor Temasek – and held at Sands Expo and Convention Centre at Marina Bay Sands.
Co-led by PAA members including Tara Climate Foundation and Bloomberg Philanthropies, the JET Community aims to accelerate Asia’s shift towards clean, inclusive and people-centred energy solutions.
Despite accounting for more than 50 per cent of global energy consumption, the region receives disproportionately low philanthropic support, data from the World Economic Forum shows.
The JET Community seeks to close this gap by serving as a platform for philanthropic organisations to collaborate on clean energy initiatives.
Lim Boon Heng, chairman of PAA, said that the goal is to “forge meaningful partnerships and catalyse action for impact”.

PAA chief executive Shaun Seow agreed. “The Communities initiative was born from a simple idea: that we can do more, and do better, when we act together,” he said.
Improving health outcomes
The HHP Community aims to mobilise more than US$100 million in catalytic philanthropic funding – led by the Gates Foundation, Institute of Philanthropy, Quantedge Advancement Initiative, Tanoto Foundation and Temasek Foundation – by 2030 and has two objectives.
The first is to reduce preventable deaths and disease burdens across South-east Asia, with a focus on child health and nutrition, among others. The second is to tackle infectious diseases.
To kick-start efforts, the initial US$100 million funding target will be deployed across various projects. Besides delivering impact, the initiative seeks to strengthen the broader giving ecosystem by onboarding new partners and fostering long-term commitment to improving health outcomes in the region.
The HHP Community will also drive impact in health innovation and delivery by advancing affordable health solutions, bolstering health systems, promoting cross-sector collaboration, and integrating digital and artificial intelligence tools into solutions that align with national health priorities.
The efforts will first focus on South-east Asia’s most populous countries: Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam.
The two new communities build on PAA’s ongoing efforts to convene stakeholders around shared challenges, and to explore promising pathways for philanthropic collaboration.
“Tackling complex challenges across health, energy or education calls for differentiated approaches,” said Seow. “To drive… impact, it is critical for PAA to provide focused platforms for collaboration.”
