ALMOST 18 billion metric tonnes of carbon dioxide – that is the estimated amount the global food and beverage (F&B) industry generates annually, according to international research firm Statista.
With the shift towards greater sustainability, Resorts World Genting is launching its inaugural sustainable F&B expo from Sept 10 to 12 at the Genting International Convention Centre. It is open to all visitors who register at its website.
A specially curated trade show that spotlights key segments of the green economy, such as sustainable food production, sustainable seafood practices, plant-based innovations and eco-friendly commercial equipment, Genting Sustainbiz F&B Expo aims to serve as a platform for industry leaders to showcase their innovative products and services, while providing an excellent opportunity for businesses and suppliers to connect.
“Sustainability and the trend of ‘being green’ has become a strategic imperative for businesses worldwide,” says Resorts World Genting executive vice president of sales, marketing & public relations Spencer Lee. “In bringing forth this timely endeavour, we expect Genting Sustainbiz to be attractive to not only F&B and hospitality professionals and entrepreneurs but also investors, environmental advocates, academics and policymakers.”
Expert seminars, industry networking
Over three days, all registered trade visitors can attend seminars for free. They will get to hear from experts like Carrie Chan, chief executive officer and co-founder of cultivated seafood company Avant Meats; Tan Cheow Yam, Nestle Malaysia and Singapore’s head of sustainability, and Loi Tuan Ee from Farm Fresh Malaysia, amongst others.
There will also be panel discussions on topics such as advances in alternative proteins, food tech research and embedding sustainability as a core business strategy.

“I hope that the Genting Sustainbiz Expo will successfully position Resorts World Genting as the first Malaysian hospitality group to host an F&B expo focused on driving sustainability conversations among industry leaders,” says Lee. “Additionally, our goals include facilitating successful business partnerships, reaching our target of 80 local and international exhibitors, hosting 100 local and international buyers, and attracting 3,000 regional visitors.
“This is just the start as we, together with MyCEB (Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau), would like to position this event as the leading F&B business-to-business expo as the expo for Asean if not one day for Asia. Our guiding principle is to be the solution, not the pollution and I hope our visitors will embrace this principle with us too,” he adds.
