Biofourmis' remote monitoring platform used by MOH for Covid-19 patients
A PLATFORM developed by Biofourmis, a digital therapeutics company working on personalised predictive care, is being deployed by the Ministry of Health (MOH) to remotely monitor Covid-19 patients.
The platform, called Biovitals Sentinel, enables signs of deterioration to be detected early so that clinicians and nurses can intervene.
The real-time data that the platform analyses comes from Biofourmis' clinical-grade biosensor, which is worn on the patient's upper arm. It can measure more than 20 physiological signals from the sensor data, including temperature, blood oxygenation, heart rate and blood pulse wave.
Biofourmis, a startup founded in Singapore and headquartered in Boston, worked with MOH to adapt the remote-monitoring system for Covid-19 patients. The system comprises the biosensor, a clinician's dashboard and a patient-facing app.
The patient-facing app comes in six different languages. Pre-set critical thresholds trigger alerts to notify healthcare workers about abnormalities in key vital signs.
The patient-facing app syncs data in real-time to the cloud for analysis, and also collects qualitative data from patients who respond to questions about their symptoms and their functional status.

Biofourmis has demonstrated the use of the remote-monitoring platform at community care facilities in Singapore. The facilities were set up to care for Covid-19 patients who are clinically well and no longer require acute care, and newly confirmed cases with mild symptoms who do not require hospital care.
Biovitals Sentinel is also being used in health systems in the US, the UK, Australia and Hong Kong. In March, the company announced that the platform was selected for a remote monitoring and disease-surveillance programme in Hong Kong that involved patients with diagnosed or suspected Covid-19 infection.
"The data and knowledge we have gained and continue to gather in other countries using Biovitals Sentinel are certain to help Singapore - and we will also gain new knowledge as part of this project as well," said Kuldeep Singh Rajput, founder and CEO of Biofourmis.
