Platform workers caught between autonomy and security
Singapore
DISCUSSIONS about platform workers' protection have often centred around their ability to save for retirement, with contributions to the Central Provident Fund (CPF) seen as a key piece to the solution. On one hand, the government is concerned that workers need more job security and income protection. On the other, businesses argue that the increase in costs that this will impose on companies may impact the platform workers' income.
In Singapore, platforms are not required to make any contributions since the platform workers are considered self-employed.
