27,000 turn up at the Padang to mark Republic's 54th year of independence and bicentennial of its founding

Fireworks were launched from three locations this year – the Padang, Marina Bay and the Singapore River – for the first time.

A 6m-tall metallic lion weighing about 1,000kg took centrestage in Act 5 of the show, titled Our Dreams. The silver lion is said to be the largest-ever parade prop.

The mobile column, returning for the first time in four years, showcased 171 assets from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and Home Team in the drive-past.

Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and Indonesian President Joko Widodo were among the invited guests at this year’s parade.

More than 800 youth and children kicked off the show singing and dancing to this year's NDP theme song “Our Singapore".


ABOUT 27,000 people turned up at the Padang on Friday for this year's National Day Parade (NDP), which marks the Republic's 54th year of independence and the 200th anniversary of its founding.
