About 60 DfMA tenders to be called for public sector projects, Government Land Sales sites
ABOUT 60 Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) tenders will be called for public sector projects and Government Land Sales sites from now till the end of 2018.
Minister For Finance Heng Swee Keat said this during his speech at the grand opening of Greyform Building by Straits Construction Group on Tuesday.
The building is the second Integrated Construction and Prefabricated Hub (ICPH) awarded under a public tender by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and will provide precast and prefabricated solutions using automation for the construction industry.
Mr Heng also announced that the BCA will start to provide a forecast of the number of tenders with specified DfMA technologies to be called in each year, which will be available from Tuesday onwards.
Mr Heng said DfMA and ICPHs are critical for improving productivity in construction as they optimise land use, improve labour productivity, improve the quality of prefabricated components and create new and higher-skilled jobs.
He also noted the challenges faced by the construction sector and said that new technologies, sustainability and resource considerations are providing impetus for productivity improvements.
The Construction Industry Transformation Map, which provides a roadmap to transform the sector, will be launched later in October, at the Singapore Construction Productivity Week.
